Lean Angles vs. Turning Scenarios
Now that we have our compact equation relating Lean Angle to turning dynamics. let’s see what they tell us.
Lean Angles
The following table and chart provide the range of lean angles for various turn radii and speeds.
Lean Angle Limits
If you were to look at the charts, you might conclude that lean angles near parallel to the ground would be practical. However, the there is a practical reality in play when leaning. This has to do with the tire traction.
It turns out as you lean, the amount of the CyclistCycle weight that is pushing down on the tire and thereby enabling traction, decreases as the lean angle increases. The consequence of this is the greater the lean, the less the traction. This in turn limits the possible turning scenarios.
